Summary/Objective
The Financial Reporting Quality Assurance Manager is responsible for overseeing the accuracy, consistency, and timeliness of financial statements produced across the organization’s association accounting platform. This role leads a team responsible for the mass production of accrual-basis financial statements for community associations and ensures all reporting adheres to company standards, accounting policies, and established operational procedures.
This position will manage and oversee a team of approximately 35 accounting professionals, including financial statement preparers and reviewers, and will be responsible for implementing and maintaining quality assurance frameworks, standard operating procedures, and performance metrics that support scalable, high-quality financial reporting.
The role plays a critical leadership function in ensuring that financial reporting operations maintain a high standard of quality, process discipline, and operational efficiency, while continuously improving workflows and strengthening internal accounting controls.
Key Responsibilities
Financial Reporting Quality Oversight
- Oversee the accuracy and quality of accrual-basis financial statements prepared for association clients.
- Ensure financial packages are complete, accurate, and compliant with company accounting policies and reporting standards.
- Implement quality control procedures that ensure financial statements meet internal and client expectations prior to release.
- Identify recurring reporting errors and lead corrective actions to improve financial reporting accuracy and consistency.
Team Leadership and Oversight
- Lead and manage a team of approximately 35 accounting professionals, including financial statement preparers and financial reviewers.
- Ensure reviewers are effectively supervising staff and performing reviews in accordance with standard operating procedures.
- Provide leadership, mentoring, and coaching to accounting staff and review leads.
- Promote a culture of accountability, accuracy, and continuous improvement.
Process Governance and Standardization
- Ensure accounting teams are following established processes and standard operating procedures for month-end close and financial statement preparation.
- Develop and maintain standardized financial statement review procedures across teams.
- Ensure consistent execution of the financial reporting process across all associations.
- Partner with leadership to refine workflows and improve operational efficiency.
KPI Development and Performance Monitoring
- Develop and implement Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) to measure financial reporting quality, accuracy, and timeliness.
- Establish metrics to track:
- Financial statement accuracy
- First-pass review approval rates
- Review comment frequency
- On-time financial statement delivery
- Balance sheet reconciliation integrity
- Develop reporting dashboards that provide leadership with visibility into quality and operational performance.
- Monitor KPI performance and implement initiatives to address quality or timeliness gaps.
Operational Excellence and Continuous Improvement
- Identify opportunities to improve financial reporting efficiency, scalability, and process automation.
- Analyze trends in review comments and financial statement corrections to determine root causes.
- Implement training and process improvements to reduce recurring errors and improve reporting quality.
- Support organizational initiatives focused on improving financial reporting accuracy and operational efficiency.
Cross-Functional Collaboration
- Partner with operations leadership, controllers, and client service teams to ensure financial reporting aligns with client expectations and service standards.
- Collaborate with finance and technology teams to support system enhancements and reporting improvements.
- Provide leadership with regular updates on financial reporting performance, risks, and operational improvements.
Qualifications
Education
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field required.
- CPA or advanced accounting certification preferred.
Experience
- Minimum 10 years of accounting experience, including financial reporting and month-end close responsibilities.
- At least 5 years of leadership experience managing accounting teams.
- Experience managing high-volume financial statement production environments.
- Background in association accounting, property management accounting, or outsourced accounting services preferred.
Skills and Competencies
- Strong knowledge of accrual-basis accounting and financial statement preparation.
- Understanding of internal controls, financial review procedures, and quality assurance practices.
- Experience developing and implementing operational KPIs and performance metrics.
- Strong leadership and team management capabilities.
- Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to manage large teams and complex reporting operations in a deadline-driven environment.
- Strong communication and collaboration skills.
